TruancyThe Texas Legislature recently passed House Bill 2398 substantially altering Texas truancy laws. The Allen ISD district team has been working on revising the attendance processes and procedures to ensure that we work collaboratively with families to identify and implement truancy prevention measures to resolve attendance issues when necessary. By now parent(s)/guardian(s) should have received, read and signed the required Allen ISD Compulsory Attendance Warning Notice detailing the new truancy laws. If not, simply login to Skyward Family Access to review and sign the notice.
Regular school attendance is vital to each student’s educational success. It is important that we work together for the success of each student. As part of the process and procedure changes, please note the term “partial day absence” has been added and the term “tardy” has been replaced with “late”. The term “tardy” will no longer be used in a student’s attendance record. A student who is not in class at the designated start time will now be considered “late” and may be subject to disciplinary action.
Allen High School and Lowery:• 1st and 8th periods are 60 minute classes◊ Students will be marked “late” if they arrive in class within 10 minutes after the late bell◊ Students will be marked with a partial day absence if they miss more than 10 minutes of each class period• 2nd-7th periods are longer than 60 minutes◊ Students will be marked “late” if they arrive in class within 20 minutes after the late bell◊ Students will be marked with a partial day absence if they miss more than 20 minutes of each class period• School hours are 8:25 a.m. -3:35 p.m.• No class periods are longer than 60 instructional minutes◊ Students will be marked “late” if they arrive in class within 10 minutes after the late bell◊ Students will be marked with a partial day absence if they miss more than 10 minutes of each class period
