CANVAS Learning Management SystemAllen ISD is using year, a web based software to help students and teachers manage learning. The system, called CANVAS, allows teachers to organize documents, files, videos and other resources for students. At the same time, students use CANVAS to also access assignments, view videos and interact with other classmates on projects. Canvas advances the Allen ISD graduate profile and strategic plan committed to preparing students who are academically prepared and effective communicators.
The intent of the move towards CANVAS, according to Lisa Casto, director of staff development, is to standardize the online experience for students. "Right now students use different technologies from class to class. One teacher might use Edmodo while another posts assignments on her website. CANVAS will eventually be the standard way that all students access material for their classes online."
As students move up in grades, their familiarity with CANVAS will also help in new programs that are set up the same as their previous year's classes. They will also be able to use CANVAS on computers and mobile devices at home or in school. Please click on the link below for more information and videos. Here is another helpful video from our Digital Parent Night held Sept. 21. https://mix.office.com/watch/w3tvamjgp2hg
