I am very excited to be teaching at Allen High School this year! This is my second year at AHS, fourth semester teaching journalism at the high school level, and fourth overall year of teaching in the journalism and media field. What? How does that work? We'll get to that below!
Before joining the faculty at AHS, I worked as marketing and social media manager for Emler Swim School at the company's headquarters in Grapevine. It was a wonderful experience. No doubt some of my students have either worked at, or maybe even learned to swim, at Emler.
In the two years prior to Emler, I taught journalism (editing, advanced reporting, reporting & writing for online media) at Baylor University. Before that I worked in communications and public relations for the UNT System and Irving Independent School District. I also managed an e-commerce company that specialized in selling golf training aids, and taught journalism (and band) for a semester at a private school in Waco.
My first career out of college was in the Army, and I spent the entirety of my time either at Fort Hood or in the national guard in Waco.
I have a master's degree in education from Lamar University, a bachelor of arts from Baylor University, and attended junior college at New Mexico Military Institute, which is where I earned my commission as a lieutenant in the Army. I'm currently working toward a Ph.D. at University of North Texas, and REALLY NEED to carve out time to write my dissertation.
My wife and I have three kids and a dog. When I'm not spending the weekend at my kids' softball and baseball games, and not trying to keep up with grading and my own studies, I enjoy restoring vintage furniture or working in my yard.
