Regarding the 2019-2020 Academic Calendar
Did the length of the school year change from the 2018-2019 school year?
The 2019-2020 academic calendar maintains 175 days of instruction.
When will students be dismissed on early release days?
On early release days, students will be dismissed at the following times:
- Elementary campuses - 12:00 p.m.
- Middle School campuses - 12:35 p.m.
- Lowery Freshman Center & Allen High School campuses - 1:10 p.m.
Will Kids Club services be available on early release days?
Yes. Students who are enrolled in Kids Club will be able to attend Kids Club once school is dismissed on early release days.
Will lunch be served on early release days?
Lunch will be served on elementary campuses. An optional grab and go lunch will be available on secondary campuses.
Why is Spring Break scheduled for March 9 – 13? Could Spring Break be held a week later?
The dates for Spring Break align to the academic calendars of Collin College and surrounding districts which is beneficial to our staff and families. It is valuable to align our Spring Break with the Spring Break of Collin College in an effort to support our students who are enrolled in Dual Credit courses.
When will the high school graduation ceremony be held?
A graduation date for the Class of 2020 has not been finalized. The proposed date and time for graduation is May 22, 2020, at 7:30 p.m., which is the Friday of Memorial Day weekend.
What happens if school is closed due to bad weather?
January 6 and February 17 are designated as bad weather make-up days. The academic calendar reflects enough operational minutes to provide the district the option to use accumulated operational minutes prior to officially using the two Bad Weather Days identified on the calendar. If there is a need to make-up operational minutes due to a weather incident, accumulated operational minutes will be used first.
Can the school district change the calendar after the school year has started to make up operational minutes that are lost due to an unforeseen event?
Yes. If extreme circumstances resulted in the loss of operational minutes, the district may add minutes to days remaining in the school year to make up for an unplanned event that caused a school to close during the school year.
What is the Parent Conference day scheduled on October 28?
Communication and partnership with parents are important. October 28 is designated as a day for parent and teacher conferences. This provides an opportunity to review your child’s progress for the first nine weeks grading period. The process and schedule for this day will be coordinated by your child’s teacher and/or campus. This is a school holiday for students.
What is a Staff Development Trade Day?
Allen ISD is committed to professional growth for all staff and has included a paid professional learning day during the 2019-2020 school year. For the Professional Development Trade Day, staff will earn professional learning hours during non-contract time in exchange for the designated Trade Day on March 9, 2020. Additional details will be provided to staff in Spring 2019.
