    Student Council Bylaws

     

    Article I: Name of club/organization

    The name of this organization shall be the Cheatham Charger Student Council, hereinafter called the Student Council. 

    Article II: Purpose/Objectives/Mission:

    The purpose of the Council shall be to:

    1. Strive for good citizenship.
    2. Respect all individuals in the school and the community.
    3. Involve all students in sharing ideas to make our school the best it can be.
    4. Promote school spirit.
    5. Give all students the practice of democracy in action.
    6. Provide service for groups in our school and community.

    Article III: Membership requirements

    All students in Grade 4th through 6th shall have the opportunity to make an application to and serve on the Student Council, to vote, to offer ideas for Student Council action, and to be nominated for office.

    Article IV: Member responsibilities to the club/organization

    Voting: Each member is entitled to one vote.

    Privileges: Each member shall be entitled to all the services of the organization.

    Participation: Each member shall be entitled to participate in all organizational events.

    Responsibilities: Each Student Council member shall be responsible for performing the duties of membership including: attending student council meetings, being an active voice for students in the school, participating in school-wide community projects, participating and servicing the PTA when needed, setting a good example for others, and showing school spirit.

    Article V: Meetings

    Student Council meetings shall take place at least once a month to conduct the business of the council. An agenda shall be presented at each meeting.

    Article VI: Sponsor responsibilities to the club/organization

    The sponsors shall be members of the school staff who shall be responsible for fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of a sponsor.  

    Article VII: Other program guidelines and/or requirements

    There are no other program guidelines and/or requirements.

    Article VIII: Officer Positions and duties

    Section 1: The officers shall be the President, Vice-President and Secretary.

    Section 2: (Nominations) Candidates will submit their interest in running for office by completing an application.  Each candidate may only use two 14x22 sized poster boards for campaigning purposes.  Nominees must agree to write a two minute speech describing skills they possess that would make them an ideal candidate to represent the student body.  Nominees must agree to present their speeches in morning announcements via video recording.  Recordings must be turned in by the announced deadline to the sponsor prior to announcements. All candidates must have the approval of the sponsor and the principal, with completed application and signatures. 

    Section 3: (Elections) The election of officers shall take place no later than September 30th of each school year and shall follow procedures approved by the Principal. There will be no cost associated with holding an office in the Cheatham Charger Student Council.

    Section 4: (Duties and Powers)

    The President shall preside at all meetings and be responsible for appointing all standing, special, and ad-hoc committees and shall perform such other duties as usually required in this office.

    The Vice-President shall act in the absence of the President in all capacities as listed above and shall assist in conducting the business of the organization.

    The Secretary shall keep track of attendance of members and record and read the monthly minutes.

    Section 5: (Term of Office) The term of office for all officers shall be one calendar year, from the completion of the elections to the last day of school.

     

    Article IX: Funds collection

    This organization shall abide by all applicable policies instituted by Allen Independent School District.

    Article X: Disciplinary Action

    Any officer or representative may be removed from office by the sponsors or principal for poor attendance at Council meetings, failure to perform required/requested duties, unsatisfactory academic performance, or failure to follow school rules or class rules.  Decisions will be made in individual cases.

    Article XI: Parliamentary Authority

    The rules contained in Robert's Rules of Order, Revised, shall govern the organization in all cases to which they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent with the bylaws or the special rules of order of the organization.

    Article XII:  District Policies

    This organization shall abide by all applicable policies instituted by Allen Independent School District.

    Article XIII:  Amendments

    These bylaws may be amended by a vote of two-thirds of the members of the organization present at any regular meeting or at a special meeting called for that purpose. The membership shall be notified of adopted bylaw amendments by the most feasible means.
