Allen ISD is excited to continue into the 2nd year of the Empower 1:1 Student Mobile Device program. This program is a product of the 2020 bond project, designed to enhance student learning and foster future-ready skills by providing digital technology to every student. The purpose of the program is to support the effective integration of digital learning platforms in the classroom while empowering students to collaborate, communicate, create and enhance their technology skills to support their academic and future professional growth.
Empower 1:1 FAQ
-
When will my student receive an Empower 1:1 device?
Every student in Allen ISD will be checked out a school-issued Chromebook to use for digital resources. The same device moves with the student until they reach the 3rd, 7th, or 9th grade entry point where they will be issued a new device. Parents can opt-out of a district device. If they do opt-out, their student will not receive a school issued device and is expected to bring their own device to school daily. Information Technology cannot guarantee technical support on BYOD devices. Students are expected to use all devices responsibly on campus and adhere to district rules and regulations as noted in the Allen ISD Student Handbook and Responsible Use Policy. Misuse of devices will be handled by campus administrators.

What does it cost to utilize the Empower 1:1 program
In order for a student to be allowed to take a Chromebook home, the student or parent/guardian must pay an annual $30 insurance fee and sign the Responsible Use Policy (parents should have signed the Responsible Use Policy at the beginning of the school year with back-to-school paperwork). The insurance fee will be applied to each student's account and can be paid in one or two payments in SchoolPay. The insurance fee allows students to take the device to and from school and covers any type of device malfunction, including:
- Hardware
- Accidental Damage (drops / spills)
- Cracked Screen
- Liquid Submersion
- Power Surge (lightning)

Where can I find more information about the Empower 1:1 program?
The Allen ISD Technology Department has created a webpage to provide additional information and resources for parents and students. The webpage is available at Empower 1:1 Website
-
Do the devices have filters when at home?
Yes, all devices have the same firewalls and filters whether they are on campus or off campus. All internet flows through our network regardless of location to ensure students stay safe and the Chromebook is protected.
-
Any student who took a device home over the summer of 2022, will need to bring it back to school to have it re-checked for the new school year.
Students are expected to take care of their devices while in their possession at all times. Students will adhere to the guidelines and expectations stated in the Responsible Use Policy and Student Code of Conduct.
Insurance will cover all accidental damages. Damaged Chromebooks returned to Information Technology will be evaluated on a case by case basis to assess repair needs. Evidence of intentional damage or negligent care may be subject to additional fees. Families will be financially responsible for the Chromebook cost if the device is lost.
