Preston Science Fair Information
Contact your Science teacher or Jamie.Qureshi@allenisd.org with questions.
This year's Preston Science Fair will kick off October 3! Science Fair is an optional at-home project for students to complete. (The exception being it is required for fifth graders.) Students may compete with a traditional physical tri-fold display with notebook or a digital (Google Slides) option. Students may work individually or in pairs.
Students may compete in one of four categories
-
Life Science- testing or having an effect on a living organism (prior Science Admin approval required)
-
Earth Science- testing or having an effect on naturally occurring land, water, or air
-
Physical Science- testing or having an effect on natural or man-made materials
-
Engineering- solving a problem by developing or improving a technology
There are three age divisions: K-3, 4-5, 6. Grand prize winners from each age division will represent Preston in the Elementary Regional Fair at the end of January. (Note that winners must provide a physical display for this fair, even if they competed with a digital entry in the PES fair.)
There are many specific requirements, the student book is found here. The three main things that you need to remember:
-
No student names or identifying photos may be shown. Each student will be given a SID (Science ID) number to put on the back of their display.
-
Display boards must not exceed size requirements of 30 inches deep, 32 inches wide, 80 inches high.
-
Students should complete the work themselves, and projects are due 8:30 AM Thursday, December 1.
Grand Prize winners in each age division will be announced December 8 and winners will move on to the District fair in January.
Parents: Sign up for the Preston Science Fair here by October 28.

Digital Option
If students choose a digital option instead of the traditional Science Fair Board and notebook, they will join a Science Fair Google Classroom. (The info will be emailed after the entry is completed.) This presentation looks like the one linked below and will be pushed out to through the student's AISD account. Students may alter the slides, but the content and sequence should remain the same. There is a limit of 12 slides, but they may link data tables and other information in the slides.
The slides are "turned in" through Google classroom. If there is any changes after the Dec. 7, the entry will be disqualified.
If digital participants win the Grand Prize, they will need to complete a physical board to compete in the Regional Fair near the end of January.
