  • Program Details

Our program teaches children from the ages of 3-5. The school day is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with two teachers in each classroom. We have an 18:2 child to teacher ratio in our 3's classes and 22:2 in our 4's classes.  The children attend music class for 30 minutes daily and go to recess for 30 minutes on either the elementary school playground or the gym on cold or rainy days. Learn 'N Playday classes do go on field trips every year and buses are used as our means of transportation. We offer T/Th, MWF and M-F (4s only) options for classes.

Learn 'N Playday offers a huge advantage to your pre-schooler by being located within one of our Allen ISD elementary schools (Anderson Elementary).  The children are able to get acclimated with an elementary school, the playground, carpool process, hallway bathrooms and seeing "big" kids in the hallways. This helps the transition to Kindergarten go much more smoothly.  LNPD follows the Allen ISD calendar. Your kids will have the same days off and start and end dates as their older siblings, making it much more convenient for a parent to have one school schedule to keep up with.

If you would like to contact our program for more information, please E-MAIL or call 972-396-6932. Phone messages will be returned by the end of the next business day.

    Curriculum and Philosophy

Our curriculum at Learn 'N Playday encompasses all aspects of a child's development. The best way to teach children is to build on play and their natural learning styles. Play is a child's work! Teaching through play allows a child to be curious, enthusiastic, and interested in what is being taught each day.  Our teachers use thematic teaching as a means to teach your child something new and exciting each week. Classroom activities are then focused around this theme, which makes learning fun, enjoyable, and concepts easier to understand.

Children need the freedom to experiment, explore, try things out, and to make choices. To help foster this, each classroom is divided into at least 10 different learning centers, each one focusing on different skills and interests. All of these centers teach skills that children will eventually need to enter kindergarten and beyond. Centers include Technology (ipads, SMARTboard, computers), Literacy, Math 'N Manipulatives, Science, Blocks and Building, Library, Writing, Home Living, Discovery, Water, and Creative Art.

We use the Frog Street Press Literacy Curriculum in all of our classrooms, which focuses on sequenced instruction for phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, vocabulary, and written expression. This is enhanced by our teacher-developed curriculum.

We also incorporate STEM activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) throughout our curriculum. STEM is a world of intellectual learning. In this way of thinking, our students learn through hands-on experiences. By integrating learning by practice into the daily classroom activities, students are introduced to a new way of learning.

The Importance of PLAY: There are no greater natural scientists and engineers than young children. Inquisitive learners learn STEM concepts through PLAY. Our early childhood environment provides the structure in which to build upon their natural inclination to explore the world around them.

Our program utilizes the First Strokes Writing Program. This teaches a multi-sensory way of learning proper writing strokes and pencil grip. We focus on activities to develop fine motor skills to strengthen your preschooler's grasp, which leads to successful handwriting skills.

Our curriculum incorporates goals from the Texas Pre-kindergarten Guidelines as established by the Texas Education Agency. These guidelines include goals in the following areas: Language and Early Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Health and Safety, Personal and Social Development, Physical Development, and Technology. While working towards these goals, we know that your child will be able to blossom emotionally and intellectually in a loving and nurturing environment; an environment that promotes socialization develops self-help skills and encourages emotional and cognitive development. When we use the above-mentioned guidelines, children will become independent learners who are excited about learning. They will have a strong foundation, confidence in their abilities, and lifelong skills that will help them continue to learn and flourish.
