About Nurse Kat

    Kat Higman

    Welcome Vaughan Vikings!

I am so excited to be your school nurse, and am so grateful for the opportunity to take care of our students.

I graduated from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville,  where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. I spent 15 years working in the hospital setting before transitioning to a school nurse roll. I've been a volunteer nurse at Chase Oaks Church and for a special needs organization called Buddy Break for the past 5 years.

I am a native Texan, and live in Allen with my husband, 2 boys, and our 2 dogs. I love our neighborhood, and can often be found walking the dogs or riding bikes with my family.  We love to explore the creek area.

My doors are always open but my ultimate goal is to keep your children in the classroom. Often times I will not call parents during a first visit unless absolutely necessary. Most times, students do not return unless they truly are sick or injured and at that point I will always reach out to parents and guardians.

Throughout the year I may communicate with students, parents and teachers using letters home, phone calls, emails and newsletter notifications. We have a very busy clinic at Vaughan and the best way to get in touch with me is via email but I am also available by phone and in person during school hours. Please feel free to reach out anytime but in the event I am not available I will always try to reply by the end of the day.
