     Curtis 8th graders will welcome author K. A. (Kari Anne) Holt on March 25th and 26th! She will spend two days speaking to the 8th graders. A big thanks goes to Curtis PTSA for sponsoring one of her days at Curtis. While at school, Kari Anne will be autographing any books that you have already purchased. Just bring them with you.

    If you are interested in having lunch with the author on Monday, please let your English teacher know. We do ask that you have read at least one of her books to be eligible to enter a drawing for lunch with the author! Bring your own lunch from home or the cafeteria. Mrs. Hawkins will provide dessert!

    P.J. Hoover


    Thanks to a grant from the Foundation for Allen Schools, award-winning author, P. J. Hoover once again visited Curtis Middle School 7th graders. P. J. presented her "Choose Your Own Author Visit" in which she told student about her path to writing and continuing own her own Hero's Journey as an author.

    While at Curtis, she had lunch with the Creative Writing Club and even judged the myths written by Curtis and Ford students.

    ALLen Reads author, Kimberly Brubaker Bradley visited Curtis for an Invitation-Only presentation in conjuction with Curtis Read it Forward. Students who read The War That Saved My Life were invited to hear Kim's presentation. She even stuck around to sign autographs. Thank you to the Friends of Allen Public Library and The Foundation for Allen Schools for making this visit possible.

    As an added bonus, 5th grade students at Norton and some students at Allen High School also watched Kim's presentation through Google Hangouts! Thanks to the Foundation For Allen Schools for providing the ALLen Reads books for all of the schools in the district!

    Curtis students were thrilled to have W. Bruce Cameron visit in the spring! A Dog's Purpose was selected as our Read it Forward book and students who participated in this school-wide reading program were invited to attend this very special author visit.
    Bruce was on a publicity tour for his new book, A Dog's Master, and took time out of his busy schedule to come to Curtis. It was amazing!
    Allen High School library also read A Dog's Purpose for their Read it Forward, and some AHS kids were able share in his presentation via Skype!

    PJ Hoover

    The Curtis 7th graders had another great visit with author, PJ Hoover on September 27th and 28th!
    PJ discussed her path to writing and took students on her "hero's journey" as a writer. The sequel to PJ's 2016 Lonestar List book, Tut: The Story of My Immortal Life, is scheduled for release February 28, 2017.

    Texas Eats author Robb Walsh visited Curtis 6th period Texas History students on Thursday, April 7th, 2016 to talk about the history of Texas foods. Texas Eats was the 2016 ALLen Reads book.

    Author Jenny Martin visited Curtis 8th graders 
    On April 14th and 15th, eighth grade students were visited by Jenny Martin. She discussed her book, Tracked, and her journey as an author. Marked, the sequel to Tracked, will release on May 17th.

    jordan  Jordan Sonnenblick's books include Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie; Zen and the Art of Faking It; and Curveball: The Year I Lost my Grip. Curtis was very lucky to host Jordan for a very  book club visit as part of the Allen READS community reading program. We used Jordan's books as part of our school-wide READ it Forward program to go along with the Allen READS book, Notes from the Midnight Driver.

    Among Gary's many books are Trouble, The First Boy, and The Wednesday Wars. Curtis was very lucky to host Gary for a very special lunch time book club visit as part of the Allen READS community reading program. We chose his book, The Wednesday Wars as our school wide READ it Forward book to go along with the Allen READS book, Okay for Now.

    pj hoover  For several years, P.J. Hoover has visited with Curtis 7th graders. We have the privilege of having her for TWO days each to speak to Curtis students about The Hero's Journey, and her own hero's journey to become a published author.
    P.J. is the author of the Forgotten Worlds Trilogy, Solstice, and the upcoming novel, Tut: The Story of My Immortal Life, which is set for release in September 2014.  Learn more about her at her website, PJHoover.com.

    Author, Chris Crutcher, visited Curtis on April 21, 2011 for a presentation for our 8th grade students. Chris also visited Ford Middle School, as well as the Allen Public Library.

    Taylor Joseph
    Teenage author, Taylor Joseph, visited Curtis Middle School, as well as several other schools in AISD in 2011. She spoke to our 7th graders about the importance of reading and writing and gave tips on publishing your own book!
