  • Peer Assistance and Leadership (PAL) is a program in which 9th - 12th grade students develop leadership, communication and principle-based decision making skills, and set personal and professional goals.  PALs mentor individual students in K-9th grades, plan and participate in campus events and community service projects, welcome new AHS students, give campus tours to visitors, interview teacher/staff applicants.  PAL student-leaders undergo extensive peer-mentor training; learning to build trusting relationships with their PALees and understanding the guidelines of confidentiality.  Student-leaders in the PAL program will develop a positive self-concept, healthy relationships and learn personal responsibility. They will also develop emotional intelligence and the skills it measures; including self- awareness, self-control, self- motivation and social skills.  Student-leaders are carefully selected by sponsors from a selection of applications, interviews, and teacher recommendations. PALs students sign contracts to stay drug free, keep a maintain grades in all classes, and be a positive role model both in and out of the school environment. PALS are also very involved in the community. First year PALS are required to have 10 service hours per grading period while second year PALS are required to have 15 hours per grading period.  These service hours help PALS to learn the importance of giving back to the community.
