National Junior Honor Society
Update due to Covid-19 related school shutdown: If you received a letter of invitation and/or an application for NJHS for the 2020-2021 school year - all of the current deadlines will be extended for turning in the letter and application. These deadlines are still to be determined depending on when we return to school. Just hold onto them for now - I will give all students plenty of time to get everything turned in.
Ereckson Middle School is a chapter of the National Junior Honor Society which is an outgrowth of the National Honor Society. Through the years, NJHS has developed into a unique organization that recognizes outstanding middle level students, all the while borrowing many concepts from its sister organization.
The objectives of NJHS are “to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in the nation’s secondary school students.
All NJHS meetings will be at 7:55 a.m. in the Library. All members must attend to deliver their completed service hour form. A minimum of 12 service hours per 9 week grading period are due at each meeting (6 hours for the 4th 9 weeks). Service hours performed in the summer may be counted for the first 9 weeks only. You are responsible for having them with you at each meeting, correctly documented on the NJHS service hour form. If you do not have them, you can be placed on probation.
Ereckson 7th and 8th graders who have been at EMS for at least one full semester and attained a cumulative average of at least 94% are eligible for membership in NJHS. Seventh graders who are inducted at the end of the school year will have membership during their 8th grade year at EMS. Eighth graders who are inducted at the end of the school year and all current eighth grade NJHS members in good standing will have their membership transferred to the Lowery Freshman Center.
