Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year and Fourth Grade! This is my fourteenth year teaching here at Anderson Elementary and my 26th year teaching. I am originally from Southern Mississippi, where I graduated in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Mississippi, and have been in Texas for the past 22 years. I have taught Preschool, Second Grade, Third Grade and Fourth Grade in MS and TX. I was previously in Richardson ISD where I was a Fourth Grade teacher, an Instructional Specialist, and a 3rd/4th Multi-age teacher before coming to Allen ISD.

I was widowed after my husband of 29 years died from colon cancer, and we have four children, who attend, or attended Allen schools. Our oldest daughter graduated from Allen High School  in 2011, and recently graduated from Texas A&M- Commerce majoring in Vocal Performance/Opera. She is married and is teaching voice lessons.  My son is an AHS graduate of 2013 and is beginning his Junior year of college at Collin College majoring in English/History. My middle daughter graduated from AHS in 2016, and is a Senior majoring in Sociology and minoring in Business/English at Texas Tech, and my youngest daughter is a Sophomore at Allen High School.  She plays the flute in the band, performs in local musical theater, and is signed with an agency out of California as a model and actress.  They keep us busy!

I am a certified Open Water Scuba Diver, an Advanced Open Water Diver, and have a Specialty in underwater navigation. I was a Girl Scout Leader for 13 years, and my troop are all now in college or have graduated from college!   One of my passions is TRAVEL and learning about other cultures.  We have sponsored students as foreign exchange students from Germany and France, too.

I love my job here at Anderson, and am looking forward to working with Fourth Graders! We have so many fun activities planned this year!

If you've been around Anderson for awhile, you're probably wondering who is Mrs. Burr?! Well, I have been blessed to remarry a wonderful man who is the father of three boys, so I am now bearing a new name and am a stepmom too! (My email will remain Simmons until I have legally gone through the process of changing my name to Burr, but the kids will call me Mrs. Burr.)

Looking forward to an All-Star Year and "Navigating our way to Success!"
