Summer Assignment:  to enjoy the summer and stay safe!

All students enrolled in AP Biology, HL Biology II or IB SL Biology 1 for the 2022-2023 school year will use Canvas to access course materials.

If you are enrolled in IB SL Biology, please see the separate page for your course at left to find out what supplies you will need for class in August.

To log in to Canvas, follow this link:  canvas.allenisd.org

Be sure to use Google Chrome as your browser when using Canvas as you will get optimal function of the Canvas in that browser.  Certain features of Canvas may be unavailable if you use other browsers.

I look forward to having you as a student in my class, and hope that you are ready for a fast-paced, fun year of learning!

    AP Students:
Supplies you need to have for the first week of class include the following:
    • 2 quad-ruled composition books to be used as an interactive notebook. These notebooks are graph paper composition notebooks.  These can be purchased at Staples, Target or Wal-Mart.   If you cannot find the quad ruled notebooks, regular composition notebooks will work as well.  I just want you to have what you need for class as soon as possible since we will start doing things in our notebooks the SECOND DAY of class.  I will have some available for purchase the first day of class--they will be first-come, first available.  NOTE:  These notebooks are on sale at Target right now for 50 cents each! :)  Here's a graphic to help you shop for exactly what you need for class:
Description of notebook types, starting with quad ruled, and regular composition notebooks. Also what notebook types to avoid
    • You will need these on the SECOND DAY of class.  We will use these notebooks every single day--they will serve as the place you take notes, complete bellwork and collect lab data. We will be setting up our notebooks for use on the second day of class.
DO NOT PURCHASE THE PERFORATED TYPE NOTEBOOK!  It will fall apart.  Additionally, do NOT use a spiral notebook!  Neither of these notebooks are durable or sturdy.
    • This will serve as your interactive learning log to be brought to class each day.  We will use it every class period, and you will organize your coursework in this notebook.  Additionally, this notebook will serve as your review guide for either the AP exam at the end of the course.   DO NOT USE SPIRAL NOTEBOOKS!  These notebooks DO fall apart as they are not durable.  This will increase the likelihood that you will lose the contents of your notebook.
    • Pens in the following colors:
      • Blue or black ink:  any written work must be completed in blue or black ink only.
      • Choose three different colored ink pens (your choice of colors) for annotating your notes and work.
    • Highlighters of any color
    • Pencils (number 2 pencils.  Mechanical pencils are okay!)

Additional supplies required per class period:

    • 3rd period:  1 container Clorox wipes (or equivalent, store brand is totally okay)
    • 5th period:  1 roll paper towels
    • 6th period:  1 container Clorox wipes (or equivalent, store brand is totally okay)

I look forward to meeting you and working with you this year as we learn to think scientifically and ask lots of questions!
