My name is Karen Abney and I am thrilled to be teaching AIM at Preston!  I look forward our new school year where both our returning Preston family and our new friends come together to create a dynamic classroom.  I am a native of Baltimore, Maryland, attended college at Governors State University (which is now University of Illinois), began my teaching career in Chicago, and have taught every grade from 3rd-8th grade over the last 28 years.  My husband, Mike, is a high school English teacher so everything about education is near and dear to our heart.  We are blessed to have one son who is beginning his senior year of college.  My family and I live in the Cottonwood Creek neighborhood so you may see me occasionally out walking our very spoiled pup.

Teaching AIM is a blast!  As we explore various countries and cultures across the grade levels, a hands-on approach that incorporates STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) activities as well as humanities based projects will be utilized.  The goal is to enhance, excite, inspire, and stretch the minds of our "out of the box" thinkers by using dynamic learning opportunities geared specifically for your child.

I am really looking forward to this school year and to spending time with all of you!  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions throughout the year at Karen.Abney@allenisd.org and/or follow our class on Twitter @abneypreston .

    Your partner in education,
    Karen Abney
