• 2022-23 Preston Elementary AIM

Welcome to AIM for the 22-23 school year!  It's going to be fabulous! My name is Karen Abney and I am thrilled to be your child's AIM teacher.  I started my teaching career in the Chicago area in the early 90's, moved to Tulsa for six years in the late 90's through the early 2000's and have been in the great state of Texas teaching in Allen since 2003.  I am the proud momma of a 25 year old son who is a software engineer and the wife of a high school teacher in Plano.

During this upcoming year our 1st-3rd graders will be exploring story telling throughout the ages and across multiple cultures.  Every culture and civilization has a story to tell.  As we dive into one civilization after another, we will examine the stories behind what has made that culture unique and interesting and how they chose to tell their stories throughout time.  At the end of the year our students will be involved in a story telling festival in which they will tell one of their own family stories in one of the formats that we will be learning about throughout the year.

Our 4th-6th graders will be traveling back in time to the 1920's to discover how life one hundred years ago has significantly contributed to the society that we live in today.  Our society has evolved significantly over the last century and will we explore how those changes took place over time and how we can both appreciate and learn from our past while preparing for our future.  Throughout the year we will be investigating a variety of topics which will culminate in a 1920's showcase at the end of the year.

Whether you are a returning AIM student or brand new to the program, I know that it is going to be a fabulous year for you!  If you ever have questions or just want to chat about what is going on in class, please feel free to touch base at any time.  I am here for you.  Usually the fastest way to contact me is through email at karen.abney@allenisd.org and I promise I'll get back to you as quickly as possible.  Here's to a great year ahead!
