Hello EMS students and parents,
First and most importantly, we miss working with each of you and seeing your faces every day! While you are learning at home, we want you to know how we can support you academically, socially and emotionally. Learning how to balance At Home Learning, social distancing and this temporary way of life can be very challenging.
Please feel free to reach out to us with questions or concerns you may have. The two ways you can communicate with us during this time are through email or a virtual meeting through Zoom. Our email addresses are to the left and this is the quickest way to get a response, however, if you want a face to face virtual meeting, please click the virtual meeting link on the left to find a time to talk to your EMS counselor. Once you sign up, we will send you an email to your Allen account with the directions for Zoom. As a parent, if you prefer your child to NOT communicate with us in a virtual meeting, please email us your child’s name and a statement saying you do not give permission for virtual meetings.
At Home Learning is a great way to continue the routine of learning and provide you a way to stay connected to your teachers. Please go to Canvas on a daily basis to check in on assignments your teachers have assigned. They are checking to see if you are being active on Canvas. If you have any questions about Canvas or At Home Learning, you will need to email the teacher of that class directly.
There is an SEL class set up in Canvas that will begin Monday, March 30th. Make sure to accept the class when you log in. You will be able to get to the SEL lesson for the week as well as counselor information. We want you to complete the lesson on a weekly basis just as you did in homeroom. There is a video to watch each week that will take you through the lesson and then you will complete the student handout and submit that to Canvas.
The district is providing free curbside breakfast and lunch for all students during school closure. Click on the following link for more information: Free Breakfast/Lunch
As we get information and updates from the district about topics like CBE, EOC, Pre-AP and double math qualifications for next year, returning to school, etc, we will post them on our website and our SEL Canvas class. Please continue to check the Counselor Corner tab on the EMS webpage, the Allen ISD homepage, or EMS homepage for updated information. Remember, email is still the quickest and most efficient way to get in touch with us.
Remember, in order to best get through this time, start a routine for At Home Learning, stay positive, go outside for a walk, and practice social distancing.
We are here to help,
Your EMS Counselors
