Physics is fun and has the potential to completely change the way you view the world around you. However, physics is also challenging, and success in its study requires deep conceptual understanding, proficiency in mathematics (the language of physics), a touch of intuition, and above all else, hard work.Information about the InstructorThis is my second year at Allen High School, but my thirteenth year teaching. I have a bachelors in mathematics and a minor in physics from Southern Nazarene University. I am currently working on a Masters in Physics from A&M Commerce. I first started teaching Algebra and Geometry, but after a couple of years I switched to physics and have been teaching various levels of AP Physics for the past eight years. I am happily married and have two wonderful boys who are attending Olson and Curtis this fall.
AP PHYSICS 1: Algebra Based Grade: 11-12 Course Code: SC3PBA / SC3PBB Credit: 1
Prerequisite: Pre-AP/IB Chemistry; Pre-AP/IB Algebra 2 (may be taken concurrently)
This course covers Newtonian Mechanics (including rotational dynamics and angular momentum); work, energy and power; and mechanical waves and sound. It will also introduce electric circuits. Calculator required. Students are expected to take the AP exam in May. Recommended Resource: AP Review/Study Guide – Approximate cost: $15
AP Physics 2: Algebra Based Grade: 11-12 Course Code: SC3P2A / SC3P2B
Prerequisites: AP Physics 1 (may be taken concurrently); Algebra 2 Pre-AP/IB (may be taken concurrently)
Explore topics including fluid statics and dynamics; thermodynamics with kinetic theory; PV diagrams and probability; electrostatics; electrical circuits with capacitors; magnetic fields; electromagnetism; physical and geometric optics; and quantum, atomic, and nuclear physics. Calculator required. Students are expected to take the AP exam in May. Recommended Resource: AP Review/ Study Guide – Approximate cost: $15.00
