Can I eat lunch with my child?

You may eat lunch with your child at school. In an effort to help students get acclimated and learn our new school routines, we will start allowing parents/guests to visit for lunch the week of September 11, which is the 4th week of school. We ask that you give your child an opportunity to get use to the typical school day without visitors during lunch. Often visitors in the middle of the day cause more anxiety, especially when parents have to leave. We have designated tables for visitors and parents on the stage if you plan on eating with your child. If you visit for lunch, please remember that you will be allowed to eat with your child only at the parent/visitor tables on the stage, once you have signed in through our visitor check-in system at the front desk.

We will also have designated days throughout the year when our cafeteria will be closed to visitors for Starlight Café Days to celebrate student successes. These days will be shared in our PTA Newsletter so that parents know in advance.

How do I pay for my child’s lunch?

Accounts may be opened during “Meet the Teacher” night, before school each morning from 7:30-7:45am or by registering on www.paypams.com online credit card payments. (Please allow 24-48 hours for the online payment to be posted to the

student’s account.) Our Preston cafeteria features a computerized cashier and accounting system and operates on a NO CASH basis during lunch. This means that all plate lunches and snacks must be pre-paid. Please see cafeteria manager for more information.

What if my child forgets his/her lunch?

You may drop your child’s lunch off at school. You will label it and place on the lunch cart in the lobby. We will place the lunch cart in the hallway at lunch time. Your child will check the cart before entering the cafeteria.

What if I forgot to tell my child something important?

Classroom instruction is not interrupted during the school day with telephone calls. All messages will be picked up from our message board between 2:40-2:50pm. The end of the day is an extremely busy time of the day in our school office, so please hold calls unless it is urgent. To leave a message for your child prior to the end of the day, please call by 2:00pm, if at all possible.

How will I know about bus information?

To find out more about Allen ISD Transportation, you may go to the Allen ISD Transportation website at www.allenisd.org.

How do I register my child for Kid’s Club, which is Allen ISD’s after-school program at Preston?

Call 972-727-0503 for information and enrollment.

    KN is dismissed at 2:57

    1st -6th grades are dismissed at 3:00pm

All students should be picked up no later than 3:10pm. All students will be supervised as they walk to vehicles and to adults waiting in the Parent Zone. Parents are required to wait outside in vehicles or the Parent Zone while waiting on students to be dismissed.

If parents are meeting students at the back gate, parents must wait outside of school property.

What happens if an emergency prevents me from arriving by 3:10pm?

If changes occur, please write a note or call the Preston office ASAP explaining the change and how long the change will be in effect. Notification Process for School Closing and Delays

Allen ISD campuses are occasionally closed due to weather such as snow and ice. Under most circumstances, a decision to close or delay school due to bad weather is made by 5:30 a.m. If enough information is available, school district officials may make a decision the night before and parents will be notified before 10 p.m.

If school is closed or delayed, the announcement will first be posted on the Allen ISD website, Allen ISD Facebook page, and Twitter account. Cable Channel 98 will be updated with the information and major television and radio stations will be notified. Because of the large number of school districts in the area, television and radio announcements are sometimes delayed 30-45 minutes. Parents will also be notified by automated phone calls through the SchoolMessenger notification system.

    Power Outage Notification

If a campus or multiple campuses are experiencing a power/electricity outage at 6 a.m., schools will have a delayed opening of 10 a.m. If power has not been restored by 9:30 a.m., campuses will remain closed the remainder of the day. In addition to notification of television and radio stations stated above, a phone notification will be sent to affected families and Fast Track emails will be sent to all subscribers.

    Parent Volunteers

Every volunteer MUST complete the online Background Check on the Allen ISD website annually. No exceptions will be made. This includes all parent, grandparent, other family members, and friends who volunteer in any capacity (classroom, copying, reading with children, Watch DOGs, field trips, field day, etc).

Parent volunteers must also follow our student dress code. See Allen ISD online Student Handbook for details.

Where can I find the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook?

www.allenisd.org, Students, then Student Handbook and SCOC

    Rainy Day Dismissal

Walkers and bike riders will assume normal routine unless we are notified by the parent.

Carpool dismissal remains exactly the same for KN-6th grade. Staff members will maintain the same dismissal procedures.

    • KN-2nd grade and siblings will wait on the front porch and load cars as
    • 3rd-6th grade will wait in the gym and load cars as

Please discuss RAINY DAY plans with your children in advance so that your child knows your general plans for a rainy day. These often sneak up on us and the first few days of Rainy Day dismissal can be quite confusing for everyone if you have not had a conversation about this ahead of time.

In severe weather, we will post red flags outside by the front door and gym door. This will indicate that we will not be dismissing students yet.
