Thanks for stopping by!
Hello, and welcome to Music! My name is Sara Voga, and I am excited to teach music at Olson Elementary for the third year! It was so good to see many of you at Meet the Teacher! I was thrilled to hear about the ways music is important in our families' lives! Allen is a great community for the fine arts, indeed.
I grew up in Fort Worth and received my bachelors of music education from the University of North Texas in 2014. I started my elementary music career teaching at Boyd Elementary School in Boyd, Texas.
I found my passion for elementary music in college while being involved in a variety of musical experiences ranging from band, choir, and chamber ensembles, to jazz, theory, and pedagogy. I realized that the best way to have high quality music in people’s life was for them to experience a rich foundation, so I began finding out as much as I could about excellent elementary music philosophies and practices.
In music class at Olson, students will sing, say, move, play, create, analyze, read, write, and evaluate music as they grow to independently participate in life’s many facets that are touched by music. They are fortunate to learn in a community that values music education! Thank you for supporting the arts in your child’s well-rounded development.
With this active, meaningful, and varied elementary music experience, I believe students will bring a deeper aptitude into the musical endeavors throughout their lives, whether that occurs in a school musical ensemble like band, choir, orchestra, or dance, in a community activity, or as part of their family life.
Things I Find Interesting:
The Boxcar Children Series by Gertrude Chandler Warner
A Wrinkle in Time, A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet by Madeleine L’Engle
The Hobbit, the Lord of the Rings Series by J.R.R. Tolkien
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
Anne of Green Gables Series by L.M. Montgomery
Music for Listening/Composers/Genre
Tchaikovsky’s Serenade (and most of everything else he wrote)
Dvorak’s Theme and Variations
Beethoven’s Symphony No.6
Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture
Smetana’s Die Moldau
I enjoy folk music from all over the world, but especially Irish and Scottish because I grew up listening to that! I would like to continue growing my listening in this area, as there are so many interesting traditions!
I enjoy listening to almost all other types of music. There is always something going on to tickle the ear in each genre!
Just Plain Interesting
If I had infinite time, I would definitely spend some of it building things, playing with marbles runs, playing with magnets, cooking, playing flute, reading, dancing, and being with my family.
