All About Mrs. Sawyers
Welcome to 3rd grade! My name is Shari Sawyers and I am thrilled to be your teacher this year! I'm looking forward to getting to know you and your families. Here are a few things about me!
I grew up here and graduated from Allen High School in 1989. I have seen Allen go through a LOT of changes over the years! This will be my 19th year to teach in AllenISD. I have taught 1st, 2nd, 4th, and this is my 12th year to teach 3rd grade here at Chandler! I believe that all children can learn, though not in the same way or at the same pace. I believe that real learning occurs when children are excited and engaged in the learning process and that each child should be encouraged, challenged and motivated in his/her own unique way. I believe that learning is best facilitated when students, teachers and parents work together as a cohesive team. I constantly challenge myself to grow as a teacher, learning new technology, discovering new books to read, and exploring new strategies for learning.
While I enjoy teaching all subjects, reading is truly my passion. I love finding new books to share with students and creating experiences that will help reading come alive for them! This year we will share readalouds, connect with authors, participate in the Global Read Aloud, and explore the many genres and formats of reading. We will read together and independently EVERY DAY in my classroom, because I believe in the importance of reading to your child's learning. I strive to connect every child to books they will love and books that will serve as mirrors, windows, and doors.
I have FOUR incredible kids: Jake (23), Katie (21), Marcie (19), and Daniel, who is a 2nd grader! My family is the love and joy of my life. I also enjoy writing, doing puzzles, drinking coffee, and anything DISNEY. I will take every opportunity I can to go meet and author, and I read a LOT of children's literature.
I am looking forward to getting to know each of you this year as we learn so many new things in 3rd grade! Parents, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the year.
