    Hello Parents!

My name is Britni Haskin and I am so excited to be a Vaughan Viking this year! I graduated from Allen in 2001 and I am looking forward to being back “home.” I'm starting my 14th year as an educator and have had the privilege of working with English Language Learners (ELLs) of various levels, ages, and language backgrounds over the last 11 years. I love getting to watch students grow and become more confident in their English skills. One of my favorite things as an educator is that I get to learn about my students' cultures and backgrounds.

It is my goal to support each of my students as they increase their proficiency of the English Language, specifically in their listening, speaking, reading, writing and content vocabulary in a way that they feel nurtured and respected. We'll be sure to have fun along the way!

One of my greatest passions is a trip I take to Jamaica every summer with an educational non-profit called “Teaching With Jamaica.” I partner with teachers from Allen, Frisco, Prosper, Carrollton, and Plano to teach teachers from underprivileged schools in the greater Montego Bay area as well as take much needed supplies for their classrooms and build libraries in schools where none exists. We also get to visit some of the school and spend time at a special needs orphanage while we are there. My heart is always full when we come home. The teachers in Jamaica are such an inspiration to me, as they have very little, yet their passion for helping students is so great! I just completed my 6th trip and am continually amazed by these beautiful, compassionate, Jamaican teachers.

If you have an ELL related question, please do not hesitate to contact me.  E-mail is the best: britni.haskin@allenisd.org, but you may also call me at school at 972-236-0600. My voice mail extension is 0955.

I know this year will be the best voyage yet!

    One love,

    -Britni Haskin
