Welcome! My name is Cindy Harvey, RN, school nurse at the Norton clinic. The students may call me Mrs. Harvey or Nurse Cindy; I am happy to respond to either. I am a graduate of Baylor University and have been a nurse for over 35 years, working part of that time in ICU and ER nursing. I am glad to be a part of the team here at Norton Elementary School. My husband and I have 5 children and believe that children are a precious gift. I will care for your child as I would care for my own.
I try to make the clinic an easy place to come to if needed. My goal is to care for the students and assist them with the ability to stay in class as much as possible. I rarely call parents on a child's first clinic visit, but have the students try class again. Frequently, they do not need to return to the clinic that day.
Vision and hearing screening is done throughout the year beginning in September for new students and all of kindergarten, first, third and fifth grades. Pre-diabetic screening is done the same time as vision/hearing screening for 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades. If you have a concern regarding your student’s vision or hearing, please call and I will be glad to screen your child at that time. Ten year old girls are screened for scoliosis in the fall semester, and boys are screened at age 13 when they reach middle school.
I teach a growth and development program called "Always Changing" to fifth grade students in the fall. Parents are notified before the program is presented and are given the opportunity to preview the video.
Allen ISD has specific guidelines about dispensing medication and those guidelines are located in the Student Handbook. All medication needed by a student during the school day must have an AISD medication permission form completed by the parent or guardian.
Allergy Action plans, Asthma Action plans, Seizure Action plans, Nutrition Services Medical Statement forms and Diabetic forms are all located on the Allen ISD Website under the Health Services Dept. Health Forms These forms should be completed by the health care provider and parent each school year if the student has a medical need that may necessitate care for one of the conditions during the school day. In addition, you may also locate and print your own student's immunization record at any time under the health section of Family Access if you wish to do so. Clinic visits to the nurse are also documented in Skyward and visible to the parent under the health section of Family Access.
Texas Public School Immunization Requirements can also be found on the Allen ISD Website on the Health Services section. Simply click on the link to access the most current information!
