Welcome to Olson! I am very excited to be your child's 6th grade teacher. My husband Ray and I just celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary this summer and have lived in Allen for 28 years. This will be my 14th year of teaching. Previously, I spent several years at home with my 3 amazing children Joshua, Carah, and Mikaela. My husband and I are also the proud grandparents of our first granddaughter Sadie and will meet our 2nd grandchild in January.

Before returning to teaching full time, I worked part time as a contracted tutor for Allen ISD with students in grades 3rd through 6th. I've taught at Olson since 2009 when it opened ten years ago. For seven years, I taught 4th grade Reading, Writing, and SS.  Then for the past 2 years I taught 3rd grade. This year, I will be teaching 6th grade World Cultures. I'm excited for this new challenge especially since this summer my family and I traveled out of the country for the first time to London, England and Paris, France.

During the past few summers, I have attended several Professional Development Courses regarding the "Implementation of Technology Into The Classroom in the 21st Century." Some of the technology that will be used to enhance classroom learning will include: Smart Board activities during both small group and whole group lessons; use of class and school sets of Chrome books as well as Google Classroom for Social Studies and Writing assignments. In addition we will have access to the computer lab at school and your child will need their own set of earbuds to use in there as well as in the classroom. This year we put earbuds down on the school supply list, so please be sure to purchase a comfortable pair for your child if you didn't purchase the school supply pack. Finally, I would highly encourage you to allow your child to practice their computer and keyboarding skills at home since they will be increasingly using these as they move on to future grade levels.

By the end of 6th grade World Cultures, your child should have a deeper appreciation and working knowledge of the world around them. There are so many amazing places to travel and visit, an hopely they will be encouraged to embrace learning how other people live in the world outside of the USA. The TEKS your child learns this year will prepare them for 9th grade World Geography and 10th grade World History when they move on to highschool.

Please contact me through my school email if you ever have any questions. I look forward to partnering with you to build upon your child's success in school.
