Welcome to Olson! I am very excited to be your child's 6th grade teacher. My husband Ray and I just celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary this summer and have lived in Allen for 29 years. This will be my 15th year of teaching. Previously, I spent several years at home with my 3 amazing children Joshua, Carah, and Mikaela. My husband and I are also the proud grandparents of Sadie and Sutton.

Before returning to teaching full time, I worked part time as a contracted tutor for Allen ISD with students in grades 3rd through 6th. I've taught at Olson since 2009 when it first opened. For seven years, I taught 4th grade Reading, Writing, and SS.  After that, I taught 3rd grade for 2 years. Last year I moved to 6th grade World Cultures. I'm excited once again to be teaching World Cultures this year, since last summer my family and I traveled out of the country for the first time to London, England and Paris, France. This summer we stayed in the US and decided to take a 2 day road trip there and back to Glacier National Park, Montana where we hiked 40 miles in 3 days. My family and I love to travel to new places and look forward to the many new adventures awaiting us.

During the past few summers, I have attended several Professional Development Courses regarding the "Implementation of Technology Into The Classroom in the 21st Century." Some of the technology tools that will be used to enhance classroom learning will include: Nearpod lessons which will allow students to collaborate and utilize higher level thinking skills in order to explore many different cultures in the world around us. Classroom Chrome books will be used daily as students complete assignments and assessments in their SS Google Classroom account.  It will be important for your child to have their own set of earbuds at school daily to use in each classroom. This year we put earbuds down on the school supply list, so please be sure to purchase a comfortable pair for your child if you didn't purchase the school supply pack. Finally, I would highly encourage your child to practice their computer and keyboarding skills at home so they will be able to efficiently complete their work.

By the end of 6th grade World Cultures, your child will have a deeper appreciation and working knowledge of the world around them. There are so many amazing places to travel and visit, and hopefully they will be encouraged to embrace learning how other people live in the world outside of the USA. The TEKS your child learns this year will prepare them for 9th grade World Geography and 10th grade World History when they move on to high school.

Please contact me through my school email if you ever have any questions. I look forward to partnering with you to build upon your child's success in school.
