Welcome to my webpage. I am excited to embark on a new school year. This year we will grow as learners. My passion is teaching literacy, and I hope to share this passion with others. As we go on this journey, we will travel to real and imaginary places. We will explore different perspectives. We will expand and challenge our thinking. We will think critically. All of these tasks are accomplished as we collaborate and work together to foster a love of learning. One of the beauties of reading is that it serves as a window to the world. We can learn factual information about people, places, animals, or information over any specific topic. Reading also serves as a mirror. We can learn about ourselves as human beings as we see how characters handle conflict. By reading a variety of texts, talking about them, and sharing our thinking, we all naturally grow as readers and writers.
Now a little bit about me. I am a native Texan. I grew up in Garland and attended South Garland High School. After graduation, I attended Texas A&M University where I earned my bachelor's degree in elementary education. I started teaching in 2001 with Garland ISD and taught 5th grade reading and social studies. When my principal decided to make a move to a school in Rowlett, I made the move with her and taught 2nd grade for 3 years.
A few years later, my family and I moved to McKinney. I joined Allen ISD in 2005 and accepted a position as a 4th grade teacher at Rountree Elementary. Within that same year, I decided to work on my ESL endorsement. The following year I moved into an ESL position at Rountree where I taught students across multiple grade levels. Finally in 2010, I moved to Anderson Elementary where I taught 6th grade English for seven years.
In 2015, I completed my master's degree in reading education at Texas Woman's University, and I am certified as a Reading Specialist for all grade levels. I am currently working on my doctoral degree in reading education at Texas Woman's University.
On a personal note, I have 4 fabulous children. Caroline is 17, Gillian is 15, Harrison is 13, and Meredith is 10. My children and I love traveling and spending time with our extended family. We also love playing and spending time with our beloved pets.
I am very passionate about educating and helping others discover the joy of reading and learning. My ultimate goal is that all students will be skilled and effective readers, writers, and communicators not only during their school years but throughout life. With an effective literacy education, students will become productive, responsible citizens who are prepared for real world applications.
I look forward to meeting and working with you all. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email or call me.
