Allen ISD Activities in Austin
District Leaders, Students Visit Lawmakers
The Texas Legislature completed its 88th session in May and special session concerning public education funding are being considered by the governor.
During the regular session, the district identified four Legislative priorities for this session because of their importance in reaching our SOAR 2030 goals:
School funding
Learning and instruction
School Safety
Recruitment and retention of staff
Administrators and Board Trustees keep in contact with Legislators to ensure they are aware of issues impacting our students and parents. Trustees Sarah Mitchell and Polly Montgomery visited Austin and met with legislators and policymakers. Trustees Kevin Cameron and members of the Allen ISD Council of PTAs also joined district students as well as High School Principal Matt Russell, Ereckson Middle School Principal Leslie Norris, Ford Middle School Principal Doug Wilhelm, and Curtis Middle School Principal Sonya Pitcock to attend discussions with state lawmakers.
To help district stakeholders and staff keep up with the latest developments from Austin, a Legislative website is available at allenisd.org/legislature. The site includes a Legislative Dashboard reporting on bills related to District priorities and news and links to significant action in Austin. A presentation by Allen ISD Chief Financial Officer Brian Carter to the Board of Trustees about the Legislative Session also is available.
