Welcome to the Superstar webpage!  My name is Shari Sawyers and I am thrilled to be teaching 3rd grade Reading, Writing and Social Studies this year!  Let me tell you a little bit about myself, my family, and my educational beliefs.

I grew up here and graduated from Allen High School in 1989.  I have seen Allen go through a LOT of changes over the years!   Like many teachers, I knew as a little girl that I wanted to teach when I “grew up”.  I earned my teaching degree at John Brown University, a small Christian college in Arkansas.   In 1993, I came back to Allen and taught at Story Elementary for 4 years before staying home to raise my children.  I have FOUR terrific children:  Jake (21), Katie (19), Marcie (17), and Daniel, who is a Kindergartener here at Chandler!  My hands are full, but so is my heart!  My family is the love and joy of my life, but my calling is teaching, and so in 2006 I joined the staff at Chandler Elementary where I am so privileged to teach your wonderful children! This will be my 17th year to teach in Allen ISD, and my tenth year teaching 3rd grade!

I believe that all children can learn, though not in the same way or at the same pace.  I believe that real learning occurs when children are excited and engaged in the learning process and that each child should be encouraged, challenged and motivated in his/her own unique way.  I believe that learning is best facilitated when students, teachers and parents work together as a cohesive team. I constantly challenge myself to grow as a teacher, learning new technology, discovering new books to read, and exploring new strategies for learning.

Reading is truly my passion, and I love finding new books to share with students, and creating experiences that will help reading come alive for children! This year we will share readalouds, connect with authors, participate in the Global Read Aloud, and explore the many genres and formats of reading.  We will read together and independently EVERY DAY in my classroom, because I believe in the importance of reading to your child's learning.  I strive to connect every child to books they will love and books that will serve as mirrors, windows, and doors.

In my spare time, I love to read, write, travel, and spend time with friends and family.  I am looking forward to getting to know each of you this year as we learn so many new things in 3rd grade!  Parents, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the year.
