Foundation Kicks Off 'We Believe in Our Eagles' Fundraiser
The Foundation For Allen Schools announced a special community challenge entitled, “We Believe in Our Eagles,” according to Foundation Director Regina Taylor.
“The Covid-19 crisis has impacted many of our typical fundraising events. This will be a difficult year for nonprofits and the Foundation – unless all of us stand up together and say, ‘We believe in our Eagles!’” she said.
The Foundation has set a goal to raise $100,000 by October 5. Through the generosity of corporate and lead donors, the Foundation has already secured $33,000 and is at 32 percent of its goal. Because of the impact of COVID-19 on nonprofits and in-person fundraising events, the Foundation will not host its annual “Party with a Purpose” and instead is making a direct request to the community for support.
The Foundation funds three programs in Allen ISD: classroom grants, scholarships for AHS graduating seniors, and special training and tuition reimbursement for Allen ISD teachers. To date, the Foundation has invested more than $2.6 million dollars back into Allen students and teachers through its programs. For the 2020-21 school year, the Foundation awarded 137 classroom grants which impact every Allen ISD campus and involve more than 200 teachers. In May 2021, they will award around $150,000 in locally funded scholarships to AHS graduating seniors.
“It would probably surprise our community to learn that Allen ISD teachers and staff donate just over $100,000 each year to the Foundation,” said Julie Kerr, Foundation board president. “The teacher and staff support for the Foundation is amazing. We are challenging our community to match what our teachers and staff give. We are asking everyone in Allen to show that they believe in our Eagles!”
