AISD’s Finance Department Wins Budget Excellence Award

AISD’s Finance Department Wins Budget Excellence Award

Allen Independent School District was presented with the Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) from the Association of School Business Officials International for fiscal year 2018-19. The MBA is given to school districts who display excellence in the preparation and issuance of their budgets. Allen ISD has won the MBA a total of 14 times.

“Allen ISD’s Finance Department strives to present budgetary and financial information in a way that is transparent and easily accessible to our community, and this award confirms that goal,” Superintendent Dr. Scott Niven said. “I am proud of AISD’s Chief Financial Officer, Greg Cartwright, and his department for being good stewards of our taxpayers’ money and their commitment to fiscal integrity.”

In the previous fiscal year (2017-18), Allen ISD was one of only 23 Texas school districts to receive the MBA. Statewide results for the current fiscal year have not yet been released.

Participants submit their applications and budget documents to a panel of school financial professionals who review the materials for compliance with the MBA Criteria Checklist and other requirements and provide expert feedback that districts can use to improve their budget documents. Districts that successfully demonstrate they have met the necessary program requirements may earn the MBA.

The MBA is one of many financial awards collected by Allen ISD. AISD received a “Superior Achievement” award from Schools FIRST (Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas), which is conducted annually by the Texas Education Agency. Superior Achievement is the highest available rating, and Allen ISD has earned that rating every year since FIRST was established. Allen ISD is also a current recipient of the "Transparency Star" award from the Texas Comptroller for financial transparency.
