AISD one of 34 districts nationwide to receive honor
Allen ISD has been named a District of Distinction by District Administration magazine. Allen is one of only 34 districts in the nation to be honored with this designation in 2019.
Districts of Distinction was established by District Administration magazine to honor school districts that are leading the way with innovative programs. Honorees are selected based on quantifiable results and the replicability of their initiatives. The 2019 Districts of Distinction honorees were chosen by the magazine’s editors from numerous nominations.
Allen ISD was recognized for the new STEAM Center, a facility dedicated to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. Since its opening in January 2019, more than 7,500 students in kindergarten through eighth grade have engaged in STEAM-based curriculum at the new facility. Beginning in August, the STEAM Center will host Allen High School students in classes that are dedicated to STEAM subjects such as aquatic science, architectural design, robotics, and graphic design.
“I am proud of Allen ISD for being named a 2019 recipient of the District of Distinction award,” Dr. Scott Niven, Allen ISD Superintendent said. “Even though the STEAM Center has only been open for a short amount of time, this award exemplifies the profound impact and potential that this facility offers our students.”
