Allen ISD’s Marilyn Hamilton has been named the 2019 Region 10 Elementary Teacher of the Year. Hamilton will now advance to compete in the Texas Teacher of the Year competition with 19 of her peers from across the state. The announcement was made at the Region 10 Teacher of the Year Celebration on Aug. 1

Hamilton was named the campus Teacher of the Year at Evans Elementary in the spring, and was later awarded the Allen ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year award. In the Region 10 competition, Hamilton was chosen for this honor amongst other top teachers from across the region which includes Collin, Dallas, Hunt, and Kaufman counties.

“On behalf of the entire Allen ISD community, I want to congratulate Marilyn on winning this prestigious award,” Dr. Scott Niven, Allen ISD Superintendent said. “This award is a testament to the positive impact she has made on the lives of so many children. We wish Marilyn the best of luck in the state competition.”

Hamilton taught both first and second grade at Evans Elementary between 2010 and 2019. She will join Boyd Elementary this school year as a second-grade ELA and social studies teacher. She has 20 total years of classroom experience, beginning her teaching career in Kissimmee, Florida. She also taught in North Carolina and Lovejoy ISD before joining Allen ISD.

“There are so many amazing teachers in Region 10, and to be selected from that group is an outstanding honor,” Hamilton said. “I just want to thank Allen ISD for believing in me and choosing me as the district elementary teacher of the year. I’m looking forward to representing Allen and the entire region at the state competition.”
