Allen ISD Administrative Updates
Allen ISD has announced the following administrative updates for the 2020-2021 school year:
Alana Chisum named Director of Human Resources
Gwen Dilts named Associate Principal of Allen HS
Allen ISD announces that Gwen Dilts has been selected as the new Associate Principal of Curriculum and Instruction for Allen High School.
The 2019-2020 school year marks Dilts’ 17th year in education. She has most recently served as the House Principal for the Advanced Academics Department at Allen High School. Prior to assuming her role as House Principal, she served in the following positions: Assistant Principal of Garland High School, Assistant Principal of Bussey Middle School, and Intern Assistant Principal of Lakeview Centennial High School in the Garland Independent School District.
Dilts has also served as a Biology Teacher at Garland High School in the Garland Independent School District.
Schornick Named to District Leadership Post
Jackie Schornick has been selected as the new Executive Director of School Leadership and Support for the Allen Independent School District.
The 2019-2020 school year marks Jackie’s 25th year in education. Jackie has most recently served as the Associate Principal of Curriculum and Instruction at Allen High School. Prior to assuming her role as the Associate Principal of Curriculum and Instruction, Jackie served in the following positions within the Allen Independent School District: House Principal (Science) of Allen High School, District K-12 Science and Advanced Academics (6-12) Coordinator, as well as a Chemistry and IPC Teacher at Allen High School.
She has also served as a Chemistry Teacher at Longview High School in Longview, Texas, and a Chemistry for Nurses Teacher at Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas.
Allen ISD Hires Two New Administrators
Allen ISD announced the hiring of two administrators on May 12; Dr. Jason Johnston is the new Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, and David Hicks is the new Chief Information Officer. Dr. Johnston will assume his new role on June 1. He replaces Shelia Smith, who accepted an administrative position with Lewisville ISD in April. Hicks will replace Tim Carroll who is retiring in June after 25 years of service in Allen ISD.
Dr. Johnston has served as principal of Allen High School since 2016. In that role, he has led a campus of more than 5,000 students plus 400 teachers and support staff. Prior to joining Allen ISD, Johnston served as principal of North Forney High School. He also served as a middle school principal in Rockwall ISD and assistant principal of a Garland ISD middle school. He has also served as an adjunct professor at the university level.
Dr. Johnston earned both his doctoral and master’s degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce and his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas. Dr. Johnston and his family live in Allen.
Allen ISD will immediately begin the search for a new principal to lead Allen High School.
Hicks has served as Director of Communications for Allen ISD since 2017. Prior to joining AISD, he served in several roles in the Highland Park ISD Communications Department, most recently as the Assistant Director of Communications.
He earned his master’s degree from the University of Alabama and his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas. David lives in Allen with his wife and daughter.
McLaughlin Appointed Assistant Superintendent, School Leadership
Kim McLaughlin has been named as the new assistant superintendent of school leadership and support for Allen ISD. She replaces Robin Bullock, who was named as Allen ISD superintendent of schools in January.
McLaughlin has served as Allen ISD’s executive director of school leadership in the same department since 2014. She previously served as principal of Ereckson Middle School, 2012-2014; Olson Elementary School, 2008 – 2012; Reed Elementary School, 2005 – 2008; and assistant principal at Bolin Elementary School, 2001 – 2005.
She joined the Allen ISD staff as a sixth-grade teacher at Story Elementary School, 1990 – 1999; and became an instructional designer at Story and Kerr Elementary Schools from 1999 – 2001.
She began her teaching career in 1987 in Mobile, Alabama, and then Royal Haven Baptist School in Dallas in 1989.
McLaughlin earned her B.S. degree at the University of Southern Alabama in elementary education. She earned her master’s in educational leadership at Texas Women’s University and her superintendent’s certification at the University of North Texas.
“The School Leadership and Support Department provides an important link between our parents, our principals, and the district leadership,” said Superintendent Robin Bullock. “Kim has proven through the past six years in that department and 19 years in school leadership positions that she understands how the district, the staff, and parents must work together for success. She will be a valuable addition to the superintendent’s cabinet.”
