Allen ISD may be on summer break, but activities at the district’s STEAM Center haven’t slowed down.
First, the center hosted a regional STEAM Symposium for educators featuring a day of classes, activities, and keynote speakers. More than 100 participants attended self-guided, in-person, and virtual sessions to learn innovative teaching techniques and share ideas with colleagues.
Keynote speakers included Dr. Peter Balyta, President of Texas Instruments Ed Tech, Dr. Judy Zimny, National Institute of STEM Education, and Dr. Bob Mimlitch, Co-Founder and CTO of Innovation First.
Next, the STEAM Center hosted a two-day science camp for girls in Grades 2 through 8. More than 200 girls attended science sessions with subjects ranging from building solar-powered cars to three-dimensional printing to water filter design. All of the sessions were led by Allen High School STEAM ambassadors – science, math, and art students who volunteered to lead the learning.
