Keep Texas Beautiful Honors District Elementary Students
Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) recently named the Allen ISD Elementary GT Program a winner of the Sadie Ray Graff Educational Institution, one of 10 award categories in the 2022 Beautify Texas Awards.
This award recognizes the efforts of educational institutions that provide instruction and programming to Pre-K through college students to encourage youth involvement and promote the KTB mission through environmental education.
The Beautify Texas Awards recognize the efforts of those working to enhance their community and protect the Lone Star State. These awards honor extraordinary volunteers, professionals, youth, educators, businesses, local/civic governments, organizations, and specific projects and programs.
Allen ISD will be honored at the KTB Annual Conference in Austin, June 27-29.
The Allen ISD winning project focused on National Parks. The Elementary GT teachers wanted a topic that would get students outdoors and actively moving around. The teachers realized there was an opportunity to tie what they were teaching about National Parks in class to local communities and create meaningful, actionable lessons that could create change in the Allen ISD community.
Collectively AISD schools agreed to launch an inaugural Litter-Less Saturday. Each student group was tasked with developing a communication plan to reach their target audience of participants. At different schools, students created Litter-Less Saturday advertisements or video commercials that aired on the morning announcements and were sent home school-wide through newsletters. Students AND parents learned that participating in a clean-up event is an easy way to help the environment.
Congratulations to these deserving teams for their innovation and for helping our elementary GT students gain Future-Ready Skills.
