Students Volunteer Each Week to Make Food for the Homeless

Watch: Allen High School students make PB&J sandwiches for the homeless

Every Friday Allen High School students gather in Karen Hunnicutt's classroom and make nearly 500 peanut butter & jelly sandwiches for a homeless shelter in Dallas. Hunnicutt used to make the sandwiches on her own until a few of her International Baccalaureate students found out and asked to join.

Word quickly spread, and now about 50 students from across the school volunteer their time to ensure that people have a meal over the weekend. Blú, the student-run restaurant, also donates its leftover food at the end of the week for the shelter. Click the image above to watch a short video about this community service program.
