UIL Information

If your child is interested in participating in UIL this year, please complete the form below.  Before trying out, please verify that your child will be able to attend the competition at Allen High School on January 11, 2020.  Please note that the school does not provide transportation to AHS for this event.

Anyone in the grade level listed can try out for these events. This form simply shows interest in the event and the intent to try out.  Tryouts will be held during the week of September 9-13.  Signing up for the event indicates that your child WILL BE STAYING AFTER SCHOOL on the day of the tryout until 3:45.  Tryout days are noted with each event.  If your child is trying out for more than one event and the tryouts are on the same day, you will receive an email notification as to which event they will need to attend. We will then work with your child to find another time for them to try out for the other event.

After tryouts, sponsors will notify parents if their child makes the team and send a list of practice dates and any other necessary information.  The first practice for those who make the team will be on Thursday, September 23, 2019.  All events will practice on Thursdays until 3:45.

You will be notified as well if your child does not make the team.  Please know that we are proud of everyone who tries out and we want your help in encouraging them to try again next year!

For those of you who do not have experience with UIL, here is some additional information.  UIL stands for University Interscholastic League, an organization that governs all athletic and academic contests in the state of Texas.  UIL academic programs are designed to support basic curriculum and allow students to apply what they learn in the classroom.  Students do this by selecting a contest to enter, spend a couple of months practicing the concepts after school under supervision of a coach, and then compete at the district-wide contest on January 11, 2020.

The UIL contests are as follows:

Grade 2 - Creative Writing, Storytelling

Grade 3 - Ready Writing, Spelling Storytelling, Music Memory

Grade 4 to 6 - Art, Number Sense, Ready Writing, Spelling, Music Memory, Oral Reading

Note:  Art and Music Memory are team events.  Each team must have a minimum of three contestants, but not more than five.  The students’ scores on these tests are averaged together to get a team score.  All other contests are individual.

The Allen ISD Elementary UIL Academic Contest will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Allen High School.  The contests have staggered starting times.  More information will come as we get closer to the event.  If your child would not be able to attend the competition on this date, please do not sign him/her up.  Students may enter only one event for the day of the competition.
