Board Names New School After Former Superintendent

Allen ISD’s newest elementary school will be named in honor of former Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Jenny Preston.  The Board of Trustees made the announcement on January 9 after soliciting nominations from the community to name Allen’s eighteenth elementary school.

Dr. Jenny Preston served as Superintendent of Schools in Allen from 2000 – 2006. Recently she served in the role of Allen’s interim superintendent as the Board sought to fill the vacant position.

Preston began her teaching career in 1973.  She served as a principal in Pine Tree and Mineola ISD before assuming the role of assistant superintendent in Pine Tree ISD in 1994.  She was named as superintendent of Graham ISD in 1998 before coming to Allen ISD in 2000.

In announcing the new school’s namesake, Board President Louise Master commented that “Jenny Preston is a model for our students and teachers to follow. She has always demonstrated a deeper understanding of education and it’s importance to a community. Despite the challenges our school district faced, her decisions were made with the best interest of children first.”

The Board received 23 different nominations for naming the new school.

Dr. Preston will be recognized at the January 23, 2017 meeting.
