Pedestrian Walkway Information

Parents have brought a number of questions forward about pedestrian and vehicle access to the Preston Elementary School property for next year.  Allen ISD’s chief operations officer, Daniel Pitcock, has been gathering information and is working with the City of Allen, school administration and PTA, as well as owners of the property surrounding the school.  Here is an update for parents:

A temporary easement has been granted by the adjacent landowner so that a dedicated pathway can be installed from the Starcreek trail connection to the west gate of the school property.  Once the school construction is completed, the district will install a gate and concrete pathway from the gate to the school.  The agreement to maintain the temporary path will stand until the Ridgeview Crossing development completes a permanent hike and bike trail.  In that way, there will always be a direct path to the school from the Starcreek trail connection.

Based on Texas Education Agency and district practices related to bus transportation, the Starcreek neighborhood does not meet the qualifications for bus transportation.  All homes in Starcreek fall under the Texas Education Agency two-mile requirement. The new easement and pathway will provide neighborhood students and families who choose to walk with another option for access to the campus.

Opening a new school in an undeveloped area presents challenges but our experience has been that the community and roads immediately around our schools develop quickly.  Thank you for your patience and support.

We will update the website as more information becomes available.
