Allen ISD recently hosted a special concert event featuring the Allen Philharmonic Orchestra in collaboration with select Allen ISD high school students. The performance was attended by all Allen ISD fourth graders and showcased music selections from the UIL Elementary Music Memory List.
Each year, Jeff Turner, Director of Fine Arts for Allen ISD, curates pieces from the UIL list to be featured in this educational concert experience. In August, teaching materials are distributed to music teachers across the district, supporting both competition preparation and classroom instruction leading up to the concert.
The November 19 performance included a program of eight classical and modern selections totaling over 35 minutes of music. Featured works included Richard Strauss’s “Also sprach Zarathustra,” Mozart’s “Alleluia” from Exsultate, jubilate, and John Lithgow’s narrated piece The Remarkable Farkle McBride.
