Team Overclock 15083 from the Allen ISD STEAM Center recently competed at the FIRST Championship in Houston and earned the Design Award in the Lovelace Division. This global event brought together elite teams to showcase excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
In addition to receiving the Design Award, the team performed strongly in qualification matches and earned the rank of alliance captain. They concluded the competition as division finalists.
The Design Award recognizes teams that demonstrate industrial design elements by balancing aesthetics with function. Throughout the event at the George R. Brown Convention Center, students managed complex problem solving and communication while competing against international teams. This championship serves as the culminating event of the robotics season and celebrates student achievement in STEM.
Earlier this semester, the team was featured in an interview with WFAA to discuss their journey to the world stage. Students Danielle Hwang, Tito Magaña, Vedant Mohapatra, Caleb Clark, Johnathan Luu, and Marco Parada shared insights into their robot design and the innovation required for the FIRST Championship. The students demonstrated high levels of ownership and collaboration during their preparation for the global stage.
Overclock is coached by Julie Kiel, Principles of Applied Engineering teacher at Lowery Freshman Center, along with STEAM instructors Greg Burnham and Graham Gadd, who have supported the team throughout their successful season.
