Allen High School’s Maya Ogbogu recently won the Most Valuable Player award while representing the United States on the U17 National Volleyball Team. Maya and Team USA captured the gold medal in their championship match against Mexico at the NORCECA U17 Continental Championship in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The first-ever U.S. Girls U17 National Team finished a historic debut undefeated (5-0) and never dropped a set through the tournament. The U.S. led Mexico in kills (43-19). The two were even in blocking (5-5), and Mexico led from the serving line (9-6).
Maya Ogbogu was the match leader in points with 21 on 18 kills, one block, and two aces.
Maya will continue to train and compete with Team USA while maintaining her academic progress. AHS staff will coordinate with the team to support Maya’s classwork and assignments during her time with the team.
