Matthew McCoy, a senior at Allen High School, was recently selected as one of 28 cadets nationwide to participate in an eight-week Naval STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Flight Academy program. McCoy successfully earned his private pilot license, becoming the fourth Allen High School student to complete this program. McCoy serves as the Cadet Commanding Officer of the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (MCJROTC) at Allen High School. He is also a member of the Varsity Swim Team, the National Honor Society, and Scout Troop 624 in Allen, where he is an Eagle Scout. "I'd like to thank the Naval STEM Coordination Office for this opportunity and challenge,” said McCoy. “The Flight Academy was an experience to remember, and it has further invigorated my goal of flying for the Navy. I look forward to sharing this opportunity with many more qualified candidates." McCoy also acknowledged the support from Allen ISD, adding, "I would also like to thank Sgt. Maj. Cole and the Allen ISD Administration for their support of the MCJROTC Program at Allen High School. The addition of the Aviation Club and investment in the Flight Simulator gives AHS Navy Flight School candidates hands-on experience with aviation." Congratulations to Matthew McCoy on his outstanding accomplishment! Photo courtesy of Delaware State University.

Portillo's opens second Texas location in Allen: August 28th event to benefit the Foundation For Allen Schools Portillo’s is a brand synonymous with Chicago. In fact, they are kind of a big dill with their Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, char-grilled burgers, cheese fries, fresh salads and famous chocolate cake. And their second location in Texas will open in Allen soon! On Monday, August 28th you can help the Portillo’s team train when they host a ‘sneak peek’ which also benefits the Foundation For Allen Schools! Grab a friend and enjoy a FREE Portillo’s meal from a limited menu. All they ask in return is that you consider bringing cash or a credit card to donate to their community partner (the Foundation) at the restaurant entrances. Portillo's will match the organization's donations of up to $5,000 from the event. You must register in advance and select a time to arrive. Select and register for either the DINE IN option or the DRIVE THRU option. Guests without a reservation cannot be served. Sign up today and become bun-believably obsessed with the new top dog! Thank you Portillo’s for supporting the students, teachers and staff in Allen ISD through the Foundation For Allen Schools!
