Winter Weather Waiver Officially Approved

Allen ISD will not utilize a bad weather make-up day

Allen ISD does not plan to utilize any bad weather make-up days following the extended closure during the Jan. 26-29 winter storm. April 20, which had been designated as a bad weather make-up day on the academic calendar, will remain as a student holiday and staff PD day, barring any additional unforeseen closures in the District.

Allen ISD intentionally builds its calendar with extra minutes of instruction to meet TEA’s required number of annual operational minutes in the event of an unplanned closure. The District will utilize these additional operational minutes to account for two of the missed instructional days. On Feb. 23, the Allen ISD Board of Trustees approved the District to file for a waiver request to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for the two remaining missed days of instruction, and the waiver has since been approved by the TEA.
