Allen High School seniors recently returned to the schools that helped them grow for the first Senior Give Back Day this year. Students volunteered at elementary and middle schools they previously attended, supporting campus needs and reconnecting with former teachers.
Held on PSAT Day, the program gave seniors an opportunity to serve while other students took the exam.
“They may assist with a variety of campus needs,” said Garrett Daniels, who leads Student Leadership & Engagement at AHS. “Our goal is to give seniors an opportunity to serve their community and give back to the schools that helped them along the way.”
Across Allen ISD, seniors volunteered at 17 campuses and district programs, from Anderson Early Childhood School and elementary campuses across the district to Curtis and Ford middle schools. Seniors read with children, helped with book fairs, assisted in lunchrooms and supported classroom activities. The work gave students a chance to contribute to the school communities that shaped their education.
At Curtis Middle School, volunteers helped prepare for the next phase of campus renovations. Seniors moved books, library supplies, theater equipment and classroom materials to support upcoming relocations.
“The seniors were very excited to get to go back to their campus,” said Jennifer Clements, who is also involved in Student Leadership & Engagement. “Within one day, every campus sign-up had a waitlist.”
Principals, counselors and teachers worked with the seniors to direct that interest toward campus needs.
The first Senior Give Back Day also served as a trial for a possible tradition. Through their work, seniors practiced responsibility and service while supporting students and staff across Allen ISD.
Participating campuses included: Anderson Early Childhood School; Bolin, Boon, Boyd, Chandler, Green, Kerr, Lindsey, Norton, Olson, Preston, Reed, Story and Vaughan elementary schools; Curtis and Ford middle schools; and Community Services.
