Allen High School percussion students recently participated in the TCU Percussion Festival. This annual event attracts elementary through high school ensembles and soloists from across the state and has grown rapidly since its inception. The festival aims to promote percussion education and performance throughout the greater Dallas and Fort Worth region.
The event took place in the TCU Music Center and the Van Cliburn Concert Hall. Students engaged in performance opportunities for concert percussion ensembles and soloists while also attending clinics and master classes led by some of the country’s premiere percussionists. The festival is recognized as one of the largest of its kind in the nation and features a variety of performances including steel bands and jazz bands.
The Allen High School group entered the festival as a non-competitive ensemble. In addition to the group performance, three individual students entered the solo competition. One of these students placed twenty-sixth out of a field of fifty-eight competitors.
Miles Locke, Assistant Band Director and Percussion Director, commented on the scale and variety of the event.
"The festival is one of the biggest percussion festivals in the country and includes the concert ensemble contest, solo contest, steel band performances, jazz band performances, and clinics from some of the country's premiere percussionists," said Miles.
Congratulations to the Allen High School percussion students for their dedication to musical excellence and their participation in this educational experience.
