Board Approves 2024-2025 Academic Calendar

The 2024-2025 Academic Calendar was approved by the Board of Trustees during its meeting on Nov. 27. The calendar was created through a collaborative process that included feedback from community members, staff, and students via the District Improvement Plan Committee. Feedback was also collected from the Academic Calendar Committee, comprised of district and campus administrators, and through an online public survey available to parents and staff.

Highlights of the 2024-2025 Academic Calendar include:

  • First Day of School: Wednesday, August 7, 2024

  • Fall Break: October 14-18, 2024

  • Thanksgiving Break: November 25-29, 2024

  • Winter Break: December 23, 2024 - January 6, 2025

  • Spring Break: March 17-21, 2025

  • Last Day of School: Friday, May 23, 2025

The first day of school is scheduled for a Wednesday start, which follows the feedback from a majority of respondents from the public survey that preferred a midweek start to the school year. The last day of school falls on Friday, May 23, 2025, which follows survey feedback to end the academic year prior to Memorial Day.

Teachers will return from summer break on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, which allows for a 66-day summer break for teachers. This follows the same 66-day summer break for teachers in 2023.

A new addition to this year's calendar is a long weekend in early November. The Presidential Election is scheduled for November 5, 2024 in which a high voter turnout is expected. Texas Elections Code says that schools must be used as polling sites if needed. Historically, Collin County has requested the use of several Allen ISD campuses as polling sites for Presidential Elections. The designation of the Election Day as a student holiday is designed to limit the disruption to the instructional day if a portion of the campus has to be used as a polling location. Additionally, with polls being open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., a student holiday will limit additional traffic during school arrival and dismissal.
