Chandler Student Works on Charity Project

Chandler Elementary students, staff, and volunteers packaged 33,342 shelf-stable meals in spring 2025 as part of a long-standing schoolwide service project supporting families in hunger crisis in Honduras and Ukraine, empowering students to make a meaningful impact beyond the classroom.

The school’s cafeteria was transformed into a full-scale assembly line, with every student participating in the packing process. Volunteers included parents, Watch D.O.G.S., PALS, and members of the Lowery Freshman Football Team. One student, Garrett Daniels, served for the entire day—modeling the kind of dedication and teamwork Allen ISD encourages through its graduate profile.

ā€œThis is an annual schoolwide service project at Chandler—at least for the last 12 years,ā€ said Dawn Horton, Counselor at Chandler Elementary. ā€œIt is a joy to see our students actively engaged in serving others they will never meet to make sure people are fed.ā€

Students and staff raised $8,600 in preparation for the event, and a Chandler family contributed the remaining amount needed to meet the $10,000 goal. That funding covers the cost of food, packaging supplies, and shipping. The meals will be delivered in the coming weeks via a Dole container to the Moskito Coast of Honduras, labeled from Chandler Elementary in Allen, Texas.
