Rathan Bolar, an Ereckson Middle School student, earned a spot on the USA Karate Junior National team and recently placed third at the Pan American Karate Championships in Santiago, Chile, against competitors from 24 countries.
Additionally, Rathan was selected as one of the top two athletes in the U.S. at the Karate National Championships and USA Team Trials in Virginia. As a part of the USA National team, Rathan trained at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs before the Chile competition.
In a letter to Rathan’s parents, Sasha Gerritson, a Board Director of the USA National Karate-do Federation said, “Your student is part of an elite group of US Athletes who will represent our nation in national and international competition.”
Rathan began practicing Karate when he was 9 and trains for five hours a week to reach this high level of competition. Congratulations Rathan!


Today was Reading with the Eagles at Kerr Elementary. Students were welcomed by Allen Eagle football players and cheerleaders as they entered the building. And, of course, there was a parade!

Olson Elementary holds first Project Splash House Huddle of the year! Project Splash is the house system where students work together to earn positive behavior points, connect with other students and staff, and participate in fun activities and service projects.

An Allen ISD student at Preston Elementary is smashing records in the world of badminton. Varish Karri, a fifth grader, is currently ranked the top player in North America in the Under-11 category of USA Badminton, the recognized national governing body for the sport of badminton in the United States. He also is the first young player from Texas to attain this achievement. Varish trains four to five hours a week to maintain his ranking. Congratulations Varish!

Allen High School and Lowery Freshman Center students are invited to apply for The Congressional Youth Advisory Council (CYAC), a leadership opportunity for high school students in the 3rd Congressional District of Texas, to participate in an interactive learning experience and develop leadership skills. Participation in the CYAC offers students a unique opportunity to learn about the federal government, discuss public policy, and work with their federal representative while serving their community.
